Travel Recap to the Relaxing Folly Beach in South Carolina

Folly Beach South Carolina

Today I am excited to share my Travel recap to Folly Beach in South Carolina. It is an underrated beach and such a beautiful area that was completely welcoming and relaxing.

Last weekend my friend and I took a girl’s trip. We wanted to relax and catch up on some self-care. We visited Folly Beach which is in South Carolina about 20 to 30 minutes from Charleston. We stayed at Tides Folly Beach Hotel. If southern hospitality were a hotel, Tides Folly Beach would be the definition. From the moment you get out the car with your luggage to the moment you check out, you feel welcomed. The environment is full of people that are happy you are there to visit. The positive vibes are not just with the check in crew but the valet, the waiters in the hotel restaurant, to the sweet housekeeping staff who checked on us to make sure we were ok. All the employees there played off each other with good attitudes and strong team morale. I was blown away and kept telling my friend how it felt like we were all friends with the staff.

Tides Folly Beach is located right on the beach, so it is perfect to wake up, put on your beach clothes, and walk down from your room. The views are incredible. We had a perfect view of the beach to wake up to in the morning. The sound of the waves hitting the beach was incredibly relaxing and put us in the best mood. The hotel has a cute coffee shop called Roasted that is there to help you get your day started. We ate at the hotel’s restaurant called BLU Beach Bar and Grill. Wow the food was so good that I devoured it before I could think about it. I had their fresh salmon with a side of crispy perfectly seasoned fries because it’s all about the balance right. My friend enjoyed her shrimp tacos as well.

Located in the heart of Folly Beach, Tides Folly Beach hotel is super close to many restaurant and shops in the area that are all within 1 to 3-minute walk from the hotel. It is all that close. My friend and I felt extremely safe walking around shopping and going even when we went out for dinner at dark. Just a tip but some of the restaurants do have a long wait on the weekends/dinner time so check to see if you can reserve ahead online. But there is plenty of good food to choose from, and in fact our favorite we went to for brunch was Rita’s Seaside Grille. The biscuits and gravy with crispy potatoes and eggs were so flavorful and delicious. They have a hopping and popping bar if you want fresh drinks.  I would also highly recommend the local coffee shop right there in Folly Beach called Center Street Coffee.

Folly Beach community is a small community but a great community that felt welcoming. I am surprised it is not talked about more, but I cannot recommend the area enough. If you want a getaway to relax by the beach but don’t want to deal with super busy crowds or a “party beach” Folly Beach is perfect. It’s a great area to go to for a girl’s trip, family trip, or a romantic weekend. Tides Folly Beach is the ideal place to stay right there. As cheesy as it sounds, I feel like I want to go back just to visit my fiends there.

Finally, I wanted to mention that we didn’t’ have our own rental vehicle that we originally had planned for which is a long story. But we did Uber into Charleston for a few hours to hang out because it is not too Far from Folly Beach. I will travel again to the area and spend more time but I did want to mention it is close, so you get the best of both worlds. Everything is right there in Folly Beach, but you can also make a quick drive into historical Charleston.
