Why Consistency is My Goal and Lifestyle Change

Consistency

Before the New Year is in full swing, it seems like everyone is buzzing about their New Year Resolutions. Don’t get me wrong, I think goals are important but I find that it’s easy to do things just to do it. Sometimes New Year’s Resolutions can be some sort of laundry list that we have to do. This past year I decided to take a different approach, and instead I focused on a theme that I wanted my year to be based on. Last years theme was summed up into learning.

Last year, I took a lot of steps back so to speak in my personal life mostly to really focus on growing as a person. I had a fair share of disappoints and dealt with personal struggles and my flaring health issues. I always felt like I was a strong person with a good head on my shoulders. But last year I realized there were areas in my life that I really need to get it together quickly so that I could move forward in life and just be a better version of myself. Reflecting on last year, I do feel that I learned a lot that will carry me forever. That’s why I felt like this year I wanted to focus on a theme again of something that wasn’t just for a few months but a lifestyle change.

One of the things I realized that need adjustment on is inconsistency. When I was in college and graduate school, I was very consistent in life. Now being out of school for a few years, I have really slacked and gotten into some bad habits. Most of all, there are important areas in my life where I have been inconsistent. I am not proud of that. But when the end of December came last year, my resolve was to really focus on being consistent this year.

Consistency is quite a mature word. To be consistent is to be unchanging, steady, stable, and accurate in doing something the same way each time. Consistency doesn’t mean never trying new things or learning; it means you do everything with quality and with your heart each and every time. Being a consistent person is a great quality to have. We talked about kindness, joy, happiness and all those wonderful traits to have and give as a person but being a consistent person is a deeper level.

You hear a lot in the business world including blogging that consistency is key. It is the key because nothing continues to move forward without it. You can be interested but not motivated. You can be passionate but not motivated. You can be motivated and not consistent. If you aren’t consistent, all the passion and fire in your eyes will go now where.

Being a consistent person is not easy. It takes extra time, perseverance, strength, courage, and good old fashion grit. But the results will take you further than you could think.

My goal this year of being consistent with things that really matter in my life is a goal I want to continue to work at. I know it will require digging in but I’m going to keep moving forward not being busy just to be busy but having quality. Being more consistent I believe will bring personal growth.

Thank you for letting me share what is in my heart. Thank you for your support! Your support really keeps this blog going. I want to hear from you. What are some things you are working towards? It is a degree, owning your own business, becoming more patient, being a better friend?

Consistency

Take care,
